Students will take notes for each of the 7 book meetings.
Notes will be comprised of a two pages in their LA Journals. FOR EACH BOOK MEETING--DIALECTIC NOTES, VOCAB AND RESPONSE QUESTION DUE.
Book Meeting #1(Tues 11/22)
Describe a/the main character with as much detail as you have been given. This includes physical traits AND personality traits. Book Meeting #2 (Tues-11/29) R-Main character A-The Reader F-Conversation T-Need to stop and tell you something Book Meeting #3 (Thurs 12/1) Think of a situation that happened to a person in the story and decide whether you would have done the same thing he/she did or something different. In detail, write what you might have done in the same situation and why. Book Meeting #4 (Mon 12/5) Discussion question: RAFT Role: You Audience: Main character Format: Note Topic: Give them advice on how to solve a problem or difficult situation that they are in. Use specific details to give effective advice (They do not need to be quoted; however, you must use precise language from text when describing the problem/solution). |
Book Meeting #5 (Wed 12/7)
Discussion Question: Compare and contrast the main character to yourself. In what ways are you similar? In what ways are you different? Do not use physical traits. Remember: compare and contrast means you must tell what is similar and what is different. I recommend organizing this into two paragraphs. Book Meeting #6 (Fri-12/9) Discussion Question: Find 4 examples of Show Don't Tell from this section. Write the page number and the first five words. Then, choose the example you like best--explain why it is the best example of show don't tell (this explanation must be AT LEAST 3 SENTENCES). Book Meeting #7 (Mon 12/12) Last book discussion question! Role: You Audience: Author Format: Letter (must be in proper letter format) Topic: Your thoughts on the ending of the story. |
